As an economist, I’ve always believed that money is meant for spending. If you don’t spend it, you don’t get the utility from it—though I do understand that, for some, watching their savings grow brings a certain joy.
But today, after making a big purchase, I checked my bank balance. The sudden, dramatic drop left me feeling completely unmoored.
